Product Description
The KNOTS 2U gap seal kit is the most complete on the market, as well as the most popular. It not only offers the flap and aileron seals, but also a stabilator seal for in front of the trim tab, and a flap/fuselage seal to cover the gap between the inboard edge and the fuselage. Access openings are also provided where access to the hinges is necessary for future maintenance, an important feature left out by other manufacturers. The seals are made of 2024T3 Alclad aluminum for lighter weight and superb strength. They're coated with a plastic anti-chaff strip where the seal comes into contact with the control surface to prevent any abrasion. Aircraft respond well to the gap seals as they create a pressure barrier between the high pressure air on the bottom of the wing and the low pressure air on the top of the wing. Gap seals will add 4-6 mph to the plane, as well as 100-150 ft/min increase in rate of climb. stall speeds will decrease in the 1-3 mph range. Handling is greatly improved, especially low speed handling and stability. The Stabilator Gap Seal closes the gap between the trim tab and the stabilator. It has proven very effective for additional speed and stabilator authority. It is available separate or included in the complete gap seal kit. The Flap/Fuselage Gap seal fills the gap between the inboard edge of the flap and the fuselage. It incorporates a radius at the trailing edge to relieve the vortex created at the 90 degree junction. It is available separately or included in the complete gap seal kit. |

1980 Piper Arrow IV - Upgrade with Knots2U
Been flying my Arrow IV for about 2 years now. Recently purchased the Gap seal kit for her. Have to say it has made a remarkable difference. The T-Tail configuration often gets some bad press, but once the Stabilator seal was fitted and re-balanced the A/C felt so much lighter in pitch and easier to land (similar to a newer model Archer). This modification coupled with the wing root fairings has transformed the Arrow (but bear in mind the whole tail will need a detailed re-balance / re-rig. The rest of the gap seals now mean my A/C has a good 6/7 knot gain in performance at low / medium altitudes and is much more benign in the flare. I can fly my Arrow easily now at 130-140kts with a reduced Manifold pressure - thus saving fuel.....
