Product Description
Restoring your shimmy damper effectiveness One of the most neglected components on Piper aircraft is the shimmy damper. The shimmy damper aids nose wheel steering by reducing the shimmy of the nose wheel during takeoff and landing, and during high-speed taxiing. Even minor shimmying can lead to serious damage to the nose gear and engine mount and affect the airworthiness of the aircraft. The shimmy damper is a sealed unit that, until now, could not be serviced and required costly replacement. The STC and accompanying servicing kit allows your existing MAECO shimmy damper to be modified and serviced, restoring the shimmy damper to like-new condition and enabling it to perform as originally designed! The servicing kit installs in less than an hour by any A&P mechanic. Once modified, if the shimmy damper ever needs servicing again, the owner can service it with hydraulic fluid. Our Shimmy Damper STC Kit is for the MAECO Shimmy Damper only and is non-refundable. Please check your shimmy damper for proper operation before ordering as there are many issues, other than a dry/empty shimmy damper can cause a shimmy in the nose gear. Please see the Piper MAECO Inspection Guide to help you determine if you need the servicing kit before ordering.

Piper Shimmy Dampener kit
A great product. It was an easy hour for my A & P to make the modifications and install the kit on a 1978 Warrior II. Compared to buying a replacement dampener this saved me about $800.

A must-do for your shimmy dampener!
My 1979 Arrow IV had a small shimmy, the problem was traced to the shimmy dampener. It offered very little resistance, and with it being a sealed unit, there was no way to service it. That's where this kit comes in. After drilling and tapping the hole, the cylinder was inverted, and the old hydraulic fluid was expelled. The stuff in there was old, black, and needed replacement! I used a 150cc syringe to refill it with fresh 5606 hydraulic fluid. After making sure all the air was out of the unit, it was capped with the included plug. What a difference!! The shimmy dampener now offers good resistance, and no more nose gear shimmy! I was supervised by an A&P mechanic, it's an easy fix, and much cheaper than buying a new dampener. I recommend this kit highly!!!
